Carve & Create: Sgraffito Design on Clay Forms

Event Type: Adult Program
Age Group(s): Adult
Date: 7/1/2025
Start Time: 6:00 PM
End Time: 7:30 PM
Description:
In this hands-on pottery class, students will create a slab-built trinket dish, coaster set, or spoon rest while exploring the sgraffito technique. Sgraffito, meaning "to scratch" in Italian, is a decorative process where layers of underglaze are applied to the clay surface and then carefully carved away to reveal a contrasting design underneath. Students will learn to apply underglaze to clay slabs, and use carving tools to etch patterns, textures, or illustrations into their pieces. Perfect for beginners and experienced artists alike, this class offers a fun way to combine pottery and surface design for a truly personalized creation.
