Event Type: History Age Group(s): Adult, Seniors, Young Adult Date: 5/31/2025 Start Time: 1:00 PM End Time: 3:00 PM Description: Join us and Emily Dickinson expert and scholar, Jim Arnold, for a presentation on the poet herself. The title of the presentation, “The Character of Amherst”, is based on a letter sent by Emily’s first publisher, Mabel Loomis Todd, to her parents in 1881. She describes this peculiar woman who is very different from the others - “I must tell you about the character of Amherst… whom all the people call the myth.” This presentation will showcase Emily as a boundary-breaking poet who challenged the conventional nature of poetry and women’s writing at the time. There will be a brief Q&A following the presentation.
