Machine Knitting Demonstration

Date: 10/21/2023
Start Time: 2:00 PM
End Time: 3:00 PM
Description:
Do you knit or crochet? Do you enjoy making gifts for your friends and family, or for charity drives? Come learn about the wonderful world of machine knitting! Using a knitting machine can help you create beautiful items for holiday gifts or charity donations. These special antique and vintage machines are made for home knitters, and available locally on sites like on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Craiglist, Etsy, etc. Kelley Brautigam and Kris Kennedy will bring their knitting machines for a live demonstration, and bring sample items to show what you can make at home. Kelley Brautigam is an avid crocheter since childhood who added machine knitting to her fiber arts endeavors after stumbling across one at a festival in 2002. Over the years she has collected several vintage and antique knitters and has learned how to restore them back to a useful life. Kelley’s hope is to spark a local community of machine knitters by demonstrating how fast, fun and easy it is to knit a variety of items on these machines. Kelley will be demonstrating on the Brother KH 260 bulky gauge machine. Kris Kennedy is an avid hand knitter after catching the bug over 25 years ago. She dabbles in flatbed knitting machines for variety and speed, using patterns written for the knitting machine or adapting handknitting patterns. Kris will be demonstrating on the Brother KH 836 standard gauge machine. Whether you’re new to knitting or an experienced artisan, you’ll enjoy learning how easy it is to add this technique to your repertoire.
