"Unlock Your History" and the Heinz History Center co-present an educational program entitled "Germans to America.” Facilitated by Pam Israel, from "Unlock Your History," and Robert Stakeley, from the Heinz History Center, this is a discussion-based, and hands-on one-hour program. Museum professionals and experts in history, hand-written documents and preservation will weave together how heirlooms, genealogy, translation, and history come together to demonstrate how your personal story matters. The presenters will dig into the #1-claimed heritage in the US (per 2000 Census), German, with insight into the history and some of the unique challenges in understanding these letters and other documents. Learn about the documents that might be in your home, and how you can better understand their contents. The presenters will discuss how anyone can decipher clues hidden within documents and provide guidance on when to get more help.
