TITLE;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Lost Amusement Parks
SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Lost Amusement Parks
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:From Europe to the United States, amusement parks have historically served as community gathering places where folks of different heritage and social class enjoyed outdoor recreation, thrills, and entertainment. Western Pennsylvania was a prime example of this as dozens of parks sprung up along electric streetcar lines, on the outskirts of towns, and in scenic rural areas during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, serving as respites from the daily grind – and even grime – of urban life. As part of her research for a forthcoming book on lost amusement parks, author Jennifer Sopko will share the fascinating history and images of some of the long-gone recreation spots around Southwestern Pennsylvania.
